One of the reasons many people love growing succulents is their resilience. Sadly, this translates to some people as a license to neglect their plants. Once your succulent has completely died, there will be no way to revive it anymore.
How do you save dead succulents?
This is much easier than it sounds! Just cut off the top of your plant, trim away any black spots, give the cutting three to five days to dry out, then propagate it in new soil. On the cuttings below, you can see how I cut off every part of the stem that was soggy or blackened.
What do succulents look like when they die?
A rotting succulent will appear to have black leaves starting from the bottom of the succulents plant and stems that will either look brown or black and mushy.

You can simply look for the signs! One of the first signals that a succulent entering dormancy will exhibit is that it stops growing—completely. Succulents would survive even past 14 days, but the growth would likely start distorting. The leaves would grow larger and far apart, the plant would start stretching from the centre in search of light and on the whole it would become more fragile.
